Shai Shalom Cohen

July 9, 2001 – Capt. Shai Shalom Cohen, 22 of Pardes Hanna was killed when an explosive charge detonated beneath his jeep after leaving the Aduraim IDF base south of Hebron.

Cohen left the Aduraim army base in an unarmored jeep en route to Otniel with two other soldiers shortly before 1:00 AM. The terrorists who apparently detonating the wire-operated device from a nearby field, reportedly fled into Palestinian Authority autonomous area A.

Cohen, who sustained a severe head wound was evacuated to Soroka Hospital where he died of his wounds in the morning. Another soldier in the vehicle sustained minor wounds.

Capt. Shai Shalom Cohen served as an assistant company commander in the elite Shimshon Brigade.

He was buried in the military section of the cemetery in Pardes Hanna. Shai is survived by his parents, brother and sister.
