June 3, 2001 – Jan Bloom, 25 of Ramat Gan was one of 21 people killed in a suicide bombing at a Tel-Aviv discotheque shortly before midnight on Friday night, June 1. Mortally wounded in the blast, he died two days later.
Jan Bloom came to Israel six months prior with his wife Irena and their two-year old daughter.
Jan studied Hebrew during the day at an ulpan and worked as a security guard at night at the Dolphin discotheque. On Friday night he had just completed a check of the parking area and had returned to the entrance to open the disco. He suffered a serious head injury as a result of the blast with two metal balls lodging in his brain and remained unconscious until his death on Sunday, June 3.
Jan is survived by his wife, daughter and by his parents – his father living in Israel and his mother in the Ukraine.
Jan Bloom was buried in the Yarkon cemetery in Tel-Aviv.
