Jul 27, 2006 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm | 23rd of Tevet, 5730 | כ״ג בטבת תש״ל
The burnt body of Dr. Daniel Yaakobi, 59 a doctor from Yakir in the West Bank, was found in the trunk of his car near Qalqilya on July 27, 2006. The al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades claimed responsibility for the attack.
Police believe Yaakobi was ambushed by Palestinians near a car repair shop he was heading for in the Palestinian village Al Funduk. He was apparently abducted from the repair shop while in his vehicle and murdered on the nearby road.
His body was found in the trunk of his burned car near the West Bank village of Abos, between the cities of Kalkilya and Nablus.
Born in Petah Tikva, Yaakobi worked as a doctor in a number of hospitals.
He had lived in Yakir with his wife Hani for 21 years. Koby Butbul, a neighbor said the community was in utter shock after the murder.
“Danny was a God-fearing family man, very connected to the land of Israel with all his heart. He planted an orchard by his house full of fruit trees.”
Dr. Yaakobi liked to travel around Israel and often accompanied tours and youth camps as a doctor, Butbul said.
Dr. Daniel Yaakobi was buried in the Segula Cemetery in Petah Tikva.
He is survived by his wife Hani, four children and 12 grandchildren.
