Dotan Reisel

Jun 5, 2002 | 25th of Sivan, 5762 | כ״ה בסיון תשס״ב

Jun 5, 2002 – Sgt. Dotan Reisel, 22 of Hadera, was one of 17 people killed when a car packed with a large quantity of explosives struck Egged bus No. 830 traveling from Tel-Aviv to Tiberias at the Megiddo junction near Afula.

The attack took place at about 7:15 in the morning. The force of the explosion lifted the bus into the air and reduced the car carrying the bomb to charred metal. The car exploded near the gasoline tank of the bus causing it to burst into flames. Most of the casualties were soldiers who were on their way to their bases. The Islamic Jihad claimed responsibility for the attack.

The youngest in a family of three, Sgt. Dotan Reisel was serving in the Ordnance Corps base near Afula and had been in the army for about a year. He graduated from the Amal high school for science and art in Hadera and also completed a degree in electronic engineering. He His friends describe him as fun-loving and as someone who loved to travel. He would always go out shopping and spend time with friends during his furloughs from the army. Prior to his conscription, Dotan had been a volunteer for the Magen David Adom.

Sgt. Dotan Reisel was buried in the military cemetery in Hadera. He is survived by his parents Nissan and Simha, a brother Sharon and a sister Amit.
