David Chriqui, Border patrolman Lance Corporal , 19 of Rishon Lezion critically wounded in a terrorist attack in the Old City of Jerusalem on July 11, 2008 and succumbed to his wounds on July 23, 2008.
The attack which took place near the Lion’s Gate in the Old City of Jerusalem on Friday night at about 11:30 pm, was captured on the security video system.
The Palestinian assailant sneaked up on the two patrolling border police officers and opened fire on them at close range and under cover of darkness. David Chriqui was critically wounded in the head, fell to the ground while his partner who was wounded as well, was able to return fire. The assailant fled the scene apparently unharmed and has yet to be apprehended.
David who remained in a coma since the fatal attack, succumbed to his injuries on July 23, 2008 at Hadassah-Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem.
Friends related that although he could have qualified for the air force or one of the IDF elite units, he only wanted to become a commander in the Border Police. He didn’t have much free time, but what he did have he would spend with his girlfriend of three years Einav.
Lance Corporal David Chriqui was buried in the new cemetery in Rishon Lezion. He is survived by his parents Zion and Ziva and two siblings, aged 15 and 16.
