June 12, 2003 – Avner Maimon, 51 of Netanya was shot and killed by terrorists while visiting the northern Samarian town of Yabed to buy charcoal.
Although the Palestinian village of Yabed is under Israeli security control, it is under the civil control of the Palestinian Authority and Maimon ignored an IDF ban on travel there.
The Fatah’s Aksa Martyrs Brigades claimed responsibility for his murder.
Friends who gathered to pay condolences at the Maimon home described Avner Maimon as a quiet man who would regularly travel to the territories to purchase charcoal. He ran a printing business in the Netanya market with his brother.
A neighbor described Maimon as a friend to the Palestinians. “At first, he was not fearful, but recently he took precautions after Shin Bet sources warned him not to enter the areas.”
Avner Maimon was buried in the Netanya Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, three children, and brother.
Israel's Voice commitment to memorialize each victim of terror doesn't end here. We are currently reaching out to those who have been victimized and to every family who's lost loved one(s) due to terror. Your story must be told and we intend to create a documentary for each individual. Silence is no longer an option. Contact us today to set up an appointment. firstname.lastname@example.org Our preference is to make your story heard in English, but Hebrew is also fine. Videos will be subtitled for the world to understand.
